Summit Group Inquiry Question: High School Data from National Student Clearinghouse Database Summit Group Inquiry Survey Greetings Summit Group Friends, Here’s a question submitted by Matt Markve in Idaho. Please respond if you can by 10/16/2018. First Name* Last Name* Organization* Email* Question Internal control was a major concern at this year’s summit conference. A presenter from RSA made the following recommendation for state Vocational Rehabilitation agencies: “Write specific procedures for data validation which describes the process for identifying and correcting errors or missing data which may include, among other things, electronic checks.” Following this presentation, a summit roundtable discussion group expressed additional interest in ‘written specific procedures for data validation’ that other states may have in place. Talking with people at the OKC summit conference and hearing from the presenters, it seemed like many of us have strong internal controls already in place but lack formal documentation of these procedures. It was also evident that some state agencies are more sophisticated in their current implementation framework and have much we could learn from. For those of us with less sophisticated IC documentation (and those more advanced SVRAs willing to share) Would you be willing to: (1) Provide examples of written documentation that currently exists around data validation procedures for your agency? (2) Share emerging ideas/needs for written procedures on data validation (reliability of reporting) for your agency?* One outcome of your sharing could be a growing repository of essential controls we can pull from in establishing/improving our own IC framework. How this will improve lives: Indirect impact through better understanding and approach to risk for participating agencies.
