Summit Group Inquiry: Consumers Who Appeal Tuition Funds Summit Group Inquiry Survey Greetings Summit Group Friends, Here’s a question submitted by John Valentine in Rhode Island. Please respond if you can by 5/9/2019. First Name* Last Name* Email* Question Do other states have a procedural process for a consumer who appeals the amount of funds a state agency has provided for tuition (after the employment plan is signed, tuition is authorized, invoice is paid and consumer is already attending classes that have been authorized and paid)?* From: John Valentine Organization: Office of Rehabilitation Services Designated Contact Email: john.valentine@ors.ri.gov How will the knowledge gained from this inquiry be used to improve the lives of people with disabilities? RI is on order of selection. We are currently removing 25 consumers per month from the wait list (soon to be 50) and providing services to them. Projecting/tracking spending is a necessary part for us to provide services for consumers coming off the wait list. We have been getting appeals from consumers who are requesting more funds towards tuition, after a specific amount of funding was already agreed to in the IPE & authorization and after the invoice was paid and consumers began attending classes. Having a procedural process in place, or hearing what other states are doing in these situations will better help us fiscally prepare while we are slowly coming off order of selection and providing services to consumers who have been on our wait list.
